"Fields of Grey#3" is part of a series of pastels in which I have focused on the shapes and composition of the landscape. I begin my plein air paintings with a value study working out compositional elements using just three values. Focusing on just value and not color gave me an opportunity to challenge my perception of color as the key element to create mood in my pastels.
The "Field" that I have painted is in an area near my home which has trees and wild flowers that are in a constant state of change. I tried to express that state of change in this pastel. Movement creates the mood of this pastel.
